Read our Expert Advice on Anti-ageing Skincare

Visible skin ageing is shaped by more than time alone. Sun exposure, sleep, stress and the gradual slowing of the skin's natural renewal all influence how fine lines, firmness and radiance change over the years. Our expert guides explore what happens to skin as it ages and how a targeted anti-ageing skincare routine may help support a smoother, more radiant-looking complexion over time.

Read our Expert Advice on Hyaluronic Acid and Skin

Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the skin and is known for its ability to attract and retain moisture. As levels decrease over time, skin can appear less plump and hydrated. Our expert articles explain how hyaluronic acid works at different molecular weights, what to look for in topical hyaluronic acid skincare, and how it fits into a hydration-focused routine.

Read our Expert Advice on Vitamin B3 and Skin

Vitamin B3, better known as niacinamide, is a versatile skincare ingredient studied for its role in supporting the skin barrier, helping to even out skin tone, and reducing the appearance of visible pores. How do I choose the right skincare routine for my skin type?

The most effective routine depends on your individual skin type, concerns, and goals. A good starting point is to identify whether you have dry skin or if it tends to be oily, a combination, or sensitive, and then select products formulated for that profile. If you're unsure, a dermatologist or skincare professional can help assess your skin's needs. Our expert guides cover specific ingredients and concerns in more detail to help you build a routine that works for you.

What order should I apply my skincare in?

The general principle is to work from the lightest texture to the richest, so each product can absorb properly. A typical order is cleanser, then any water-based serum, then eye creams, then moisturiser, and finally sunscreen in the morning. Treatment products such as retinol are usually applied at night, after cleansing and before your moisturiser, often as a night cream. If you are using more than one serum, apply the thinnest first and allow each layer a moment to settle.

How do I know if my skincare has expired or gone off?

Check the small open-jar symbol on the packaging: the number inside it (for example 12M) is the Period After Opening, the number of months the product is intended to be used once opened. Separately, changes in texture, colour or smell are the clearest signs a product has degraded, particularly for water-based day creams and face serums. When in doubt, note the date you first opened a product and follow the earlier of the PAO or any printed expiry date.

How does my skincare routine affect my skin barrier?

Your skin barrier is the outer layer that holds moisture in and keeps irritants out, and your routine plays a big part in keeping it healthy. Using too many strong actives at once, or over-exfoliating, can leave it compromised, so skin feels dry, tight or reactive. A simpler, consistent routine tends to support it best: cleanse gently, moisturise daily, introduce one active at a time, and finish with sunscreen.
